Recovered! A mid-century chair

Much gratification comes when a project starts to come together. After digging through so many wrong fabrics to find the right ones and waiting very impatiently for reupholstery we can breathe a sigh of relief when, in this case, a chair comes back looking even better than you imagined! And in my dreams, I get to keep said chair forever.

I actually liked the orange fabric on the before, which I'm pretty sure was the original fabric but it had a lot of wear and was fraying on the arms. This magenta ikat from S.Harris gives it a totally new and bold look and everyone is happy with the outcome. Keeping the original grid on the back would not have worked with the geometric pattern and as much as I love vintage furniture, the new solid back has a clean, fresh feel.

mixing + matching: ikats

Listen, I love Fall too, everyone. Thank goodness for Dahlias and apple fritters (mums can go to hell in a handbasket). But wouldn't it be so much better if Fall were followed by Spring and then Summer? So basically, I should just move to California and be happy for the rest of my life, right? My escape from this apple fritter-less dreary fall day are these brightly colored, whimsical fabric combos. Those pink velvets never get me down.

Today, we discuss the great Ikats of the world. (That's eee-kahht, unfortunately for me as I've only been pronouncing it every other possible way.) Eee-kahhts are your friend. They go great with the other geometrics, solids, florals, textures and there's one for every style! Proof is in the pudding folks. See example A+B.  Both colorful and fun with a wide variety of complementary fabric styles and none of which will turn all cloudy and chilly on you after a few months.

mixing + matching: palms and fronds!

We have a new post to introduce! Welcome to our blog, Mixing + Matching. It involves lots of pretty fabrics, colors, and prints and of course, recurring themes. It's summer!!! Time to celebrate visually and feast your eyes on some whimsical summery collections for your interiors. We are searching high and low for the right fabrics for a client and couldn't pass up a few fabric samples along the way.

What are the recurring themes, you ask? Good question! First, and most obvious: PALMS AND FERNS! You know, huge trend right now and festive for the summer months. Option 1 is playful, hollywood glam, bold, bright and totally appropriate for your dream 60's modern California split-level vacation ranch with a pool. (Is that on Airbnb? Because I want to stay there.) If by chance, you live in the New York / New England area, you'll notice there isn't the beautiful thing of the palm tree. We have FERNS here. Which are just as pretty, right? Option 2 is for your beachy Block Island gray-washed teak-shingled house with a pool's screened in porch.  A fun combination of patterns and color and totally fitting for New England. (Gonna be an awesome screened-in porch.) OK, let's get real. Not everyone has a place like this- but no one will stop us from using these fun combos regardless of location or home size! ALSO, both collections have the colorful flame stitch that always makes us weak in the knees. Mix those colors and patterns!
