latest + greatest: mirrors

Anyone else panicking that it's already mid-August? WHERE DOES THE TIME GO? If California wasn't such a hot mess right now I would be en route via the hitch hike as we speak to the land where summer never ends*. *But is still really cool and city-like and near the ocean. (No offense, Austin.) And since this blog is not here for me to whine about the weather, we'll talk about mirrors. We are ALWAYS suggesting them. Mirrors are maybe one of the easiest solutions to your empty wall problem, small room problem, not enough natural light problem, not enough friends problem, etc. They add serious drama and style to your space while still being functional and are slightly easier than finding the right piece of artwork. (Even though we love art and think it's important too, it can be intimidating and expensive, and we'll do a post on that later.) Mirrors have style and grace....and I probably don't need to sell you anymore because everyone loves them already, right? Check out our top picks from the endless options on the internets!

wreaths 'n things

Last year, Rehabitat posted about decorating for Christmas and specifically about an heirloom wreath made by my grandmother. This year, I tried at my own wreath and turns out, it was easy as pecan pie! AND it brings lots of joy to my living room. It's December 15 which means you have 10 days to try your own. (And you will still have more time to enjoy it than back in the day, when Christmas trees weren't set up until Christmas Eve! See A Christmas Story.)

Pictured here: a twig base, fresh greenery from the tree, and seeded eucalyptus spray painted gold. (Lasts longer that way!)

rattan schmattan

You all know how much we love vintage finds. And if you don't, well lemme tell you...we do. Why buy new when the used often has so much more to offer? Uniqueness, extra-love, personality, a good story... and yes, "I found it on craigslist" counts because it still makes all your friends jealous.

As of late, I've especially been having a visual affair with my rattan furniture loves. And yes, I even mean that Florida 70's living room sofa set with the palm frond upholstery rattan. RELAX! In moderation, of course. For those who are interested in a pop of curiosity, rattan is an organic material that plays nicely with others, adding texture and interest to your space. Both used and new are great options. And painted doesn't hurt either! See below for visual proof!

brassy...

One of us played in the brass section at one time in our lives. It may or may not have been the trombone. Not as cool as some of these pieces we love.
